Monday SARES net control procedure

Sunnyvale Amateur Radio Emergency Service

updated by Phil Stewart, K6PHL, 02 February 2013

This procedure requires two-way communications on the following frequencies
  • Monday weekly SARES checkin K6GL/R, 145.17 MHz, (-) offset, 94.8 Hz PL (SARES chan-1)
  • SPECSNET, W6ASH/R, 145.270 MHz, (-) offset, 100.0 Hz PL (with 1 minute timer)

PROCEDURE

This procedure reduces the time the SPECS Net has to wait for Sunnyvale's check-in numbers by recording most of the check-ins prior to the main SPECS Net. Following the SPECS Net a quick recheck for those who could not check in during the earlier time is made and the totals then given to the SPECS Net. This is followed by business and announcements.
At 19:30 local time, bring up the SARES Net on the designated frequency: SCRIPT FOR THE SARES Check-in

Announce: Good evening SARES members, visitors and prospective members. This is (name and callsign) net control for SARES. We will first record SARES member check-ins by call sign suffix. Visitors and prospective member check-ins are next. Business and general information exchange will follow the main SPECS Net. DROP.

Will stations with suffixes ALPHA through CHARLIE please check in? (record checkins), read back callsign suffixes and associated first name recorded for verification or correction.

Repeat above procedure for:

DELTA thru GOLF; HOTEL thru LIMA; MIKE thru OSCAR; PAPA thru SIERRA; TANGO thru ZULU; Any missed ALPHA thru LIMA; Any missed MIKE thru ZULU; Visitors and Prospective Members
Give any announcements you are aware of; Turn the net over to EC Jerry KG6HI for his announcements. Ask if others have announcements, or general information. Just before 20:00 local time announce that the SARES Net will close and invite everyone to change to the SPECS Net at 145.27, minus offset, 100 Hz PL. Monitor the SPECS net, which starts at 20:00. (the SARES AEC representative assigned for the week will answer for Sunnyvale) Later, during the roll call section the SPECS Net control will ask "who will take check-ins for Sunnyvale?"

Reply: (your name and callsign) will take check-ins for Sunnyvale on the SARES Channel 1 repeater, 145.170 Megahertz, Minus offset with a 94.8 Hertz PL, please go there now. Go to the SARES repeater and reactivate the SARES Net:

SCRIPT FOR THE SARES Check-in Announce

Good evening SARES members, visitors and prospective members. This is (your name and callsign) net control for SARES. We will now take check-ins for those who missed the earlier 19:30 check-in. First SARES member check-ins by call sign suffix. Visitors and prospective member check-ins are next, followed by announcements and general information. DROP.
Will late or missed stations: ALPHA through LIMA please check in?
(record checkins ), read back callsigns and associated first name recorded for verification or correction. Repeat the procedure for Mike through Zulu: Any late or missed MIKE thru ZULU. Visitors and Prospective Members please check in now.

Total the number of callsigns recorded, confirm the count with someone else. When there is a consensus ask: Will the AEC representative take the count to the main net? Confirm the count with the AEC, ask them to bring the totals count back to the SARES net.

Request AEC who took the count to the main net to report back the totals, then thank that person. Ask for any final comments. Close the net at local time.

Please keep a copy of the roster you are using for providing information to Phil K6PHL (pstewart99@yahoo.com) for turning in volunteer names and associated hours to the City.
